Simulation failed

Post by Dai Xiao Dai » Thu Jul 16, 2020 12:36 am

Dear developer,

I've been using Simvascalar 2019.03.17 and svsolver 2019.05.28 (Windows) recently, and everything is OK. However, today I tried several different coronary projects, all showed: "Simulation failed" and the details had nothing. I uninstalled them and installed Simvascular 2019.06.20 and svsolver 2019.05.28. This time Simulation failed again and showed "nknown error return code" and "Simulation job "coronary_1" has failed with non-zone exit code -1073741511" (both "Show details" are blank). What's wrong with it? What should I do?

Thank you very much.

Yours,
Dai

Hello Dai,

The Windows the exit code -1073741511 means that the solver has crashed. There is a histor.dat file in the simulation folder. Post that file here so I can have a look at it.

Are you using MPI for the simulations? How large are the meshes for these coronary projects? How much memory does your Windows machine have?

Cheers,
Dave

Hello, Dave.

There wasn't a histor.dat file in the error simulation folders. I only found it in simulation folders which were calculated successfully before.

I'm sure I ticked "Use svsolver with MPI" before running the simulation. But when I reopen Window -- Preferences -- Simvascular Simulation, it was unticked.

Meshes are about 1.5 million. I have successfully completed the simulation with 2.3 million meshes before this problem.

The machine have 128GB memory.
Thank you very much for your help. -V-

Dai

Hello Dai,

You should update SimVascular and svSolver with the latest releases and then try to run the simulations.

Dave

Hi Dave,

I just successfully started running the simulation.

I installed the latest Simvascular and svSolver, but the problem was not resolved. I remember your words about the MPI. So I uninstalled MPI and reinstalled MPI and svSolver. This time the problem was solved. Although I don't know the reason of MPI damage, but I hope this can help others solve similar problems.

Thank you for your help and patience.-V-

Dai

Hello Dai,

I'm glad you are up and running!

I'm not sure what the MPI problem might have been. I will be sure to keep that in mind the MPI reinstall when helping other users, very helpful, thanks!

Dave

Dear Developers,
I had run a huge aneurysm simulation as attacehded.
parameters are : mesh size max 0.03, elements 3394505. and steady mode, 4cc/s, and R is 0 ,Time step size 0.0001.Run 2000 steps.
model link:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing
Could you help me to run this case? and How to make sure that every case run successfully?

Best Regards,
Gang

Hi Gang,

It is not clear what you are asking. If your simulation failed then post your histor.dat file and I'll have a look.

Cheers,
Dave

Hi, David
how are you!
the link has the snap of hist.dat and model file, the results show no convergence.
the failing case is always happening when huge anuersym or some stenosis occured, Some case ok , but some case failded , the parameters (mesh size 0.03 cm and time step 0.0001)are kept same.
Is there some attention for those cases? I have no idea to make it run successully roubust.
Thank you

Best,
Gang

Hi Gang,

Put your project's Simulation folder somewhere I can download it and I'll have a look. No need to include any simulation results.

Cheers,
Dave
