Add constant force to an OpenSim Model hand

Post by Sudip Subedi » Tue Sep 08, 2020 6:49 am

Hello!!

I am new to OpenSim and I am using kinect as a source of skeletal data for my model. I am trying to analyze the stress developed in lower back while performing a lifting task. For this, I need to add constant load to the hand of my model. But I couldn't find a relevant tutorial for this. Could anyone provide me a guidance for how to approach this problem?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Sudip,

You can add a constant force through the GUI as an external force to the desired segment (i.e., hand). You will also need to create a .mot file that will specify the force profile throughout, for example, the trial that you are performing the analysis on. The procedure is similar to adding a ground reaction force profile to the foot during gait.

Maybe review Tutorial 3 and pay close attention to the details of inverse dynamics.

I hope this is helpful

Mike
