Use of OpenCap with rugby scrummaging

Post by Harry Powell » Fri Nov 17, 2023 9:22 am

Name: Harry Powell
Email: hxp127@student.bham.ac.uk
field: To whom this may concern, I have been advised to use this piece of software for my dissertation at uni though, I don't quite know how it can be applicable to my dissertation. I was wondering whether this software/equipment could be used pitchside to analyse the angles of a scrum in rugby. My dissertation is analysing the biomechanics of a scrum and this piece of technology could very much help me yield results.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Harry Powell

Hi Harry,

OpenCap can currently only analyze one person at a time, which would make it not work great in this situation. Many human mesh reconstruction algorithms could give you SMPL body models of many people that you could potentially use.
