Muscle over-activity simulation

Post by Ruoli Wang » Wed Nov 02, 2011 2:53 am

Hi all,

I want to study muscle compensation strategies to track the normal gait pattern when over-activity are present in certain muscle, but not sure how to do it in Opensim.

I guess I can run CMC on healthy subjects, and manually increase the excitations of certain muscle, and then re-run CMC to track the desired kinematics and compute other muscles' compensation excitation? At the 2nd CMC, should I put over-activity as constraints in the .xml ?

Anyone has experience, suggestions or better way to do it?

Thank you in advance,

Ruoli

Hi Ruoli,

Sure you can add constraints on muscle activations in CMC (look for ControlConstraints related items), and CMC will come up with "a solution". The challenge would be to validate the simulation/CMC-output to see how it relates to experiments/literature and to make sure it's not an artifact of the CMC numerical algorithm.

Hope this helps,
