Unable to extract TAWSS and OSI from any simulation

Post by Alessandro Ruggeri » Fri Nov 17, 2023 7:28 am

Hi,

I was trying to evaluate TAWSS and OSI from my simulations. I've already check other TAWSS/OSI threads inside the forum and through the internet, but I'm still stuck whit this problem.

I've done 7 CFD simulations involving aortics geometries successuflly, but when i try to convert results as a single file starting by the first time step (0) to the latest time step (suppose 2789) I only get velocity, pressure (and also averages of those quantities) for each time step.

TAWSS and OSI are not evaluated. The log obatained after conversion states:
WARNING: No data found for vinplane_traction at time step 0. vTAWSS, vshear_pulse and vOSI will not be calculated.
WARNING: No data found for vWSS at time step 0. vTAWSS_wss, vshear_pulse_wss and vOSI_wss will not be calculated.
WARNING: No data found for rinplane_traction at time step 0. rTAWSS, rshear_pulse and rOSI will not be calculated.
WARNING: No data found for rWSS at time step 0. rTAWSS_wss, rshear_pulse_wss and rOSI_wss will not be calculated.
I also tried to simulate the demo on your site (https://simtk.org/frs/download_confirm. ... oup_id=930), but nothing: same errors and no TAWSS and OSI in the output files.

You can see the entire log attached.
DemoProject Convert Results Log.txt
(705.47 KiB) Downloaded 14 times

Same thing switching to another computer.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hello,

Are you computing TAWSS and OSI results in SV?

If so then then I think you need to start the conversion from a non-zero time step.

Cheers,
Dave

Hi David,
thanks for the reply!

I'm computing TAWSS and OSI results in SV.

I already tried to start the conversion from a non-zero time step.
E.g., in the DemoProject with a simulation of 100 time steps and saving results at each timestep, i tried to convert resutls starting by time step 50 to 100 with 1 step increment.
SV was unable to compute TAWSS and OSI as you can see here in the log:
DemoProject Convert 50-100 Results Log.txt
(359.21 KiB) Downloaded 21 times
Also, there is a weird tingh: when i open allresults.vtu, vWSS is evaluated for time step 50, as you can see in the picture attached:
vWSS at 50.png
vWSS at 50.png (200.91 KiB) Viewed 442 times
So, why SV say there's no WSS at time step 50?
Can it be a solver issue?

The SV log file states

Code: Select all

found vinplane_traction and adding mean, pulse, osi.
found vWSS and adding mean, pulse, osi.

WARNING: No data found for rinplane_traction at time step 50. rTAWSS, rshear_pulse and rOSI will not be calculated.
WARNING: No data found for rWSS at time step 50. rTAWSS_wss, rshear_pulse_wss and rOSI_wss will not be calculated.
which is correct, rTAWSS is only computed for CMM simulations.

The vTAWSS and vOSI quantities are in the VTP file.

It might be easier to understand the results conversion if you don't put everything in one file.

Cheers,
Dave

Thanks Dave!
I've found them!
I tougth TAWSS and OSI were not calculated because i can't see them inside the VTU.
So they are saved only inside the VTP... i think adding some basic info into the user guide will be usefull and avoid stuff like that.

Just two other things: what are those "error" lines inside all_results_pressure and all_results_flow intended for?

They means that there is an error inside my simulation? An error order by 1E6???

Also, i don't understand how to start simulations by command line and specifically how to restart a stopped simulation. Is there a guide for that? I haven't found one in the web.

Thanks for all!

Cheers,
Alessandro

Also, inside the "simulation finish" log i found:

Code: Select all

[[55505,1],0][btl_tcp.c:559:mca_btl_tcp_recv_blocking] recv(16) failed: Connection reset by peer (104)
What does it mean?
What effect does this have on the simulation?

Thanks,
Alessandro

Hi Alessandro,

The mca_btl_tcp_recv_blocking message is I believe from MPI, maybe a node has gone down on an HPC cluster.

The svSolver documentation definitely needs improvement, on my (very long) list of things to do.

Cheers,
Dave
