Query regarding openSim software update

Post by Silas Purja » Sat Apr 06, 2024 1:48 am

Dear OpenSim Community,

I'm planning to update my OpenSim software but have concerns about potential data loss from the previous version. Could you please advise if updating OpenSim will affect my existing files and data? Any tips for safeguarding my files before the update would be appreciated.

Thank you for your assistance.

Best wishes,
Silas

OpenSim will not search your hard drive and modify files. However, model files are automatically updated to the newest version when you open them, so if you open a model and then save it without changing the filename, you will lose the model in the old version. The changes that have been made to OpenSim and how these changes might affect users are listed on Confluence (e.g., see the "What's New in OpenSim 4.5?" page here: https://opensimconfluence.atlassian.net ... penSim+4.5) and also on GitHub (see CHANGELOG.md here: https://github.com/opensim-org/opensim- ... ANGELOG.md).

It's generally a good idea to save backups.
