Model import in 3.1 failed

Post by Bryan Kirking » Thu Aug 01, 2013 7:05 am

I just installed 3.1 and CAN open included opensim models as well as run them per the tutorials.

I want to import the SIMM UpperExtremityModel (Holzbaur, Murray, and Delp) but get the following message:
"Importing model failed, please check Message window for details"

Here is the contents of the message window:

Executing [simmToOpenSim -j "C:\OpenSim 3.1\Models\UpperExtremityModel\Stanford VA upper limb model.jnt" -m "C:\OpenSim 3.1\Models\UpperExtremityModel\Stanford VA upper limb model.msl" -g Geometry -x "Stanford VA upper limb model_0.osim"]

I cannot find a file that appears to contain any other error messages.

I also tried the LowerExtremityModel in case there was an error in the model, but LowerExtremityModel gives the same result.

I wanted to try executing simmToOpenSim in a command window, but can't find an executable or batch file with that name.

I can't load either the jnt or msl file individually.

The forum mentions an update to SIMM files with scripting language but I don't see anything that looks like scripting files in either the jnt or msl files.

If anyone has any help or ideas I would be grateful.

Regards,

Hi Bryan,

Which installer did you use? I just tried the VC8 version on my old machine and was able to import a simple SIMM model so I don't think the problem is generic and holds for all installers.

Things to check:
1. If the simmToOpenSim.exe executable is not under the bin directory, get it from another or earlier installation and place it under the bin directory, that's the meat of the import. Please let me know if it works.
2. Try installing the 32 bit installer and see if it behaves differently (it could be specific to the 64 bit installer) as this executable simmToOpenSim is old and didn't need to be updated for a couple years.

Please let me know how it goes,
-Ayman

I installed the 64 bit version.
After downloading and installing the 32 bit, I copied the simmToOpenSim.exe to the 64 bit and it appears to be successful.

Thanks for the help-
Bryan
