We are trying to perform Tutorial 3 for an undergraduate course at the University of Florida.
One of the students is running the model scaling step using model 3DGaitModel2354. She loads the scaling file subject01_static.trc, and everything looks fine so far in the Messages window. However, when she hits Run, the messages window says "Step 2: Scaling generic model" and gives all the correct scale measurements, but then the bottom of the message window says "Executing scaling" and the blue execution bar just keeps bouncing back and forth like a game of pong .
I try the same thing on my computer and I have no problems.
My student is using OpenSim3.3 on a Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit computer.
Any suggestions for how to get model scaling to work for my student would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I haven't been able to replicate the issue on my machine either (Windows 7 pro 64 bit).
Which version of OpenSim are the using (32 or 64 bit)?
If she is using 64-bit, perhaps suggest installing the 32-bit to see if that solves it.

Might also be the "Enterprise" here that's a problem (I'm not sure what that means exactly). My student is using OpenSim3.3 on a Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit computer.

Hi B.J.,
The symptoms you describe sound like the Scaling hangs trying to write output files. This is likely due to permission problems. Things to try/check:
1. Installation location (we usually do not install under C:/Program Files/) to avoid writing temporary files there, please check if the installation location is protected. if it is reinstall in another location e.g. C:/OpenSim3.3.
2. Have your student try to run as administrator and see if that fixes the problem.
3. The installation user account doesn't have permission to write to disk (different behavior could be caused by the Enterprise edition)
Please let us know if any of these suggestions solve the problem for your student.
All the best,
-Ayman

Re: Model Scaling Hangs and Will Not Complete
Hi Ayman and Sherm,
Thanks so much to both of you for your very helpful replies.
The student is trying to use OpenSim via a Windows virtual machine on the web. Since someone else installed OpenSim in a "Program Files" folder to which she does not have write privileges, my guess is that file permissions are the issue.
I'll see if she can have the system administrator re-install OpenSim to a location where she has write permissions, and hopefully that approach will fix the problem.
Again, many thanks for the helpful input. I appreciate it.
