Fast FE-solver for nonlinear analyses

On the 21st of January 2011 the deliverable 6.2 of the VPHOP project has been completed. Deliverable D6.2 aimed at the testing and further development of two Finite Element (FE) solvers (ParFEnl and Ansys) for very large non-linear finite element problems such as they occur when analyzing the micro-architecture of cancellous bone. It was found that both solvers performed well on the PLX supercomputer system, with good scaling characteristics. Both codes were also able to simulate the failure process up-to failure load ranges (deformations around 2%), even for test problems with on the order of millions of elements, in acceptable amounts of cpu-time.
