I've been using Opensim to attempt to simulate an experimental tendon transfer device using the forward dynamics tool. Contact is a key part of the model, but once contact is made in the simulation, it is not uncommon for Opensim to fail in one of the following ways:
the program freezes;
the program simply closes with no warning and the entire opensim.exe process is cancelled;
the program reports an error during execution, but the data so far is not written (instead, the bar saying ‘Executing forward integration…’ remains at whatever percentage it stopped at and cannot be cancelled);
the program reports an error during writing, and only part of the data files are written (in this case as well, the ‘Executing forward integration…’ bar does not disappear but stays at 100% forever) (the most common file to not be written is states_degrees.mot, and the most common file to be written but with data missing is forcereporter_forces.sto)
I’ve included the model along with a typical controls file. I’ve also included several of the error reports.
Forward Dynamics Settings:
Initial State: -left empty-
Solve for equilibrium for actuator states: checked
Time Range to process: 0 to 5
Analyses: ForceReporter on
Additionally, occasionally when I select ‘Close Model’ from the file menu, Opensim quits entirely. This appears to be random insofar as I can surmise.
