With GUI built on Linux, the Scripts drop-down menu for "Open" and "Close" does not expand

Detailed description
"Open" and "Close" appear, but no menu appears after hovering over or clicking on either Open or Close. This also seems to be the issue for Tools > User Plugins. However, the other similar 'secondary' menus seem to work fine (e.g., File > Recent Files and Window > Configure Window).
