Summary:
The id program installed by OpenSim conflicts with the id program on Linux platforms

Detailed description
OpenSim installs a binary program called id. By default, it is installed as /usr/local/bin/id

This conflicts with the system binary id, which is used to "print real and effective user and group IDs"; see http://man7.org/linux/man-pages/man1/id.1.html

This can cause problems when running system upgrade processes. To reproduce, install OpenSim on a Debian or Ubuntu Linux system, then try to install, upgrade or re-install a linux-image package. This causes an error which is difficult to identify as being related to OpenSim.

Now remove or rename the id binary, and the system upgrade/install process will be able to complete successfully.

I would suggest that the id program is renamed or installed in a "libexec" location.
