Integration MSK and FEM for the analysis of cervical spine injuries in rugby

Hi there,

I am Dario Cazzola from the University of Bath.

In the last years we have been working on the development of rugby specific head&neck MSK models to study cervical spine injury mechanisms (see https://simtk.org/projects/csibath ). This models was optimised to replicate c-spine behaviour during impact events (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyjQpF2JJAc&t=17s ).

We also worked on the estimation of physiologically plausible muscle activations of neck muscle during impact events using EMG-assisted procedures, and used forward dynamics solution to explore injurious scenarios using a MSK model integrated with a contact model (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccQ0LGKh1bc).

The next step is to integrate the muscle forces in a FEM to provide more reliable replication and simulation of spinal injuries. It would be great if we could integrate our models and use our datasets to do so. I do believe we do have very complementary expertise.
