Notes:
- Previous to the meeting, Ahmet asked for the teams to provide their expected timeline for the delivery of Model Calibration outcomes by e-mail. All responded to this e-mail to provide their anticipated date for delivery. The discussions in the meeting confirmed each group's timelines. DU inline for a submission by end of the month. CSU/WSU similarly can submit materials by the end of the month (running final simulations. ABI hopes to start calibration simulations soon, they are getting the model stable enough for iterative simulations. They may need an additional one or three months. HSS calibration work progress is similar, model converges now in calibration phase. They will need about three months as well.
- Ahmet raised the issue that we may need to recalibrate during the benchmarking phase after unifying the interpretation of joint mechanics data. The teams that are close to submission of Model Calibration phase outputs (DU, CC, and CSU/WSU) will come together for unifying calibration data interpretation.
- Ahmet also aims for simplfying the benchmarking phase as the calibration efforts has been intensive and covered many loading cases. Maybe a single loading case for oks003 in combined loading, i.e. pivot shift like scenario. For DU02, maybe ACL intact and deficient AP and I/E rotation laxity loading at different flexion angles.
- Ahmet also raised the possibility of post-processing simulation results (from any phase) to explore the impact of tissue properties on tissue structural response.
- ABI indicated that the manuscript on the Model Development phase is ready to go. The manuscript on mesh comparison has been progressing well. Jason mentioned that the manuscript on reproducibility potential of knee modeling studies is close to be wrapped up. He is finishing statistical analysis and compiling the data analysis package. He will send the groups a final e-mail to ask for any last minute feedback. Carl is hoping to get a refined draft by the end of the month.
- Ahmet started discussions on planned manuscripts with the intention to distribute the workload. Based on specifications and some groups getting closer to provide outcomes, the outline of a Model Calibration manuscript can be prepared. Similarly, a manuscript on data harmonization, i.e. unifying interpretation of both Open Knee(s) and Natural Knee data, will be timely. DU is interested in leading these, a discussion with Ahmet to follow up is warranted. Ahmet also raised the possibility to run kinematically driven ACL simulations to see how each group's models compare in regard to structural response of the ACL. Jason/Will and Carl are interested in putting efforts in such a study. Carl mentioned 1991 Woo manuscript on ACL testing which may be relevant to this study.
- Ahmet mentioned that Hannah Dailey, Carl and himself are working on an RIG. All are interested in.
- Ahmet also noted that he received the notice of award for year 4; all subcontracts can be executed.
