- Continue segmentation based on commitments listed in the Roadmap.
Notes:
- Discuss immediate action items from the last meeting.
- Most action items were related to the ongoing agenda items; refer to discussions below.
- Discuss progress of tissue testing protocol evaluation.
- Snehal continued meniscus testing. She was working on testing with consistent minimization of swelling. Pre-conditioning was also changed 5 to 15%. Thickness measurements seemed to vary. Meniscus unconfined compression continued to be problematic.
- Snehal did another experiment with the meniscus. First test as usual; the second test started at the initial position of the first test, the response was not similar.
- Snehal did not contact the authors of meniscus testing with and without swelling for confined test. She was able to reproduce their results qualitatively in that swelling had a similar influence (less stiff) on the tissue. She will look at the data quantitatively.
- Snehal also worked on tensile testing of tendon. Gripping was an issue. She tried new gripping strategy (with gauze and gluing); while the results were better; gripping effects were observable. She later did tests by decreasing target load to 4.5% rather than 6%; which did not resolve the problems. She decreased the strain rate to 10%/s rather 20%/s; repeatability enhanced. She then increased pre-conditioning cycle numbers to 2,000 and tested at 10%/s to 4.5%; similar results were obtained. Snehal will explore repeatability at lower strain rates (1%/s); she will adjust pre-conditioning rates accordingly - doing the test 20 times slower than originally planned.
- Pre-conditioning data sometimes exhibit unexpected behavior; this may be used for quality assurance.
- Ahmet also advised to potentially start testing of Open Knee(s) specimens for tissues and testing types that exhibited satisfactory repeatability.
- Discuss segmentation progress.
- Robb had trouble with oks004 due to general purpose imaging coordinate system seemed to be shifted. Ahmet recommended him to use other imaging modalities to segment bone.
- Decide immediate action items for the next meeting.
- See Ongoing Action Items above.
- Other.
- Ahmet recommended to move Robb and Tara's effort levels from the Open Knee(s) for the first quarter of 2017. On a need basis, their assistance will be requested for segmentation and data analysis.
