Immediate Action Items:

Notes:

  1. Ongoing and planned activities at Cleveland Clinic.
    • Ahmet summarized the current statistics on cloud computing users. He received these from Joy Ku. A total of 41 simulations has been run; mostly by Ahmet, Joy, and the SimTk team. There were 8 simulations from the community performed by 6 users.

  2. Ongoing and planned activities at University of Utah.
    • Ahmet reminded Jeff about no cost extension. Jeff has sent an e-mail to his administration. The budget year will end on May 31, 2017.
    • Steve demonstrated the wrapping spring model through screen sharing. He modeled a series of springs wrapping around a block. He resolved the lack of convergence by finding the position of intermediate nodes based on the position of end nodes and a contact rule-based iteration supported by minization of spring length to distribute the intermediate nodes. Convergence was reasonable but not as good as Steve hoped. Jeff asked if Steve had a chance to look at how such models are solved in Abaqus. Ahmet told that he can try to reproduce the simulation in Abaqus if Steve sends the input file. Jeff mentioned that those who do joint modeling may be interested in this feature. It may be possible to publish it supported by example applications. Ahmet asked Steve if it would be possible to wrap springs to each other. This may be interesting to model fiber interactions in explicit representations of microstructure. Jeff noted that this is indeed a difficult problem and Steve's test model is challenging to solve.
    • Ahmet informed Steve that he looked over the part documentation. It seemed complete.
    • Steve discussed the membrane formulation with Gerard Ateshian. Gerard is confident that the shell formulation can accommodate membrane. He committed a lot to the code to FEBio base but Steve does not know if everything related to membrane formulation is there yet. Steve will follow up.
  3. Other.
    • Jeff asked Ahmet if he would be at the ORS meeting. In upcoming months, Ahmet will be going to Multiscale Modeling Consortium meeting and BMES/FDA meeting on modeling and simulation in medical devices.
