Notes:

  1. Tissue testing.
    • Snehal completed multiple day testing for two cartilage samples under unconfined compression. The tests were conducted in PBS and with ~24 hours between each test for a given sample. These two samples were taken from neighboring locations. It appears that the a combination of PBS and adequate resting time between tests aids in recovery of the sample resulting in a more repeatable behavior over 5 days. The repeatability error is ~6% for sample 1 and ~8% for sample 2. These tests were conducted without the updated preconditioning protocol.
    • Snehal is currently conducting another set of week long tests for two cartilage samples but with the updated protocol with ramp load unload before and after the preconditioning.
    • Next week Snehal will assess the effect of freezing on the repeatability behavior of cartilage samples. Similar set of tests will be conducted on another set of samples (not previously tested).
    • It appears from the repeatability data that testing the cartilage samples over multiple days and storing them in the fridge soaked in PBS prevents degradation. There does not appear to be any trend in data that may indicate deterioration of tissue over multiple days.

    • Snehal and Ahmet met and discussed the potential modeling and simulation work Snehal will be conducting. Ahmet suggested that Snehal should create a new case study with a detailed justification of the technical and/ or scientific requirement of the proposed study (need for the study, need for modeling, value of the proposed study, assessment of credibility of model, predictions compared to literature, modeling challeges etc).
    • Snehal and Ahmet will meet every two weeks on tuesdays to discuss the progress of modeling and simulation both for the case study and overall progress of Open Knees modeling and simulation.
    • Ahmet also suggested Snehal to keep track of hours spend on modeling and compare the estimate to the actual time needed.
