MuscleMetabolicsProbe

Post by Rudolf Klemetti » Wed Dec 20, 2017 9:29 pm

Hello -

I have been struggling with MuscleMetabolicsProbe for a few days. I set up the probe in the GUI, and only get the basal rate. I have no idea how to set up the probe so that muscles would be included in the analysis. Tutorial 'Simulation-Based Design to Reduce Metabolic Cost' does provide no information on how to set up the probe, and I cannot even find the model related to the tutorial.

Hey Rudi:

Visit https://simtk-confluence.stanford.edu:8 ... bolic+Cost, click the link "Download Metabolics Example Files," (you'll need to sign into SimTK), then inspect the file "subject01_metabolics.osim." Search for "probe."

Thank you Christopher -

I have been able to set up the probe and run the analysis. However, I have one question. What is the muscle effort scaling factor? I have not seen a description of it, yet it has a huge impact on results. By default it is 1, but it seems to me that Uchida et al. (2016) used value 0.5.

Thanks -

Rudi

The property is described in the doxygen here: https://simtk.org/api_docs/opensim/api_ ... 4771e6c232. The property was helpful for testing and validation, but we have been using the default value of 1.0 in our studies. Where did you see it reported that we used 0.5?

I downloaded (one of the) models you used. Value 0.5 appeared to me. Also, when I analyze the same data, 0.5 produces the total metabolic power similar to data you reported (1 have not done detailed comparison), but value 1 does not. Maybe I have done something wrong, but that is what I got.

I have been unable to find the model to which you are referring. I've checked the example files in the Confluence documentation (https://simtk-confluence.stanford.edu:8 ... bolic+Cost) and the two associated SimTK projects (https://simtk.org/projects/metabolics_run/ and https://simtk.org/projects/idealassist_run/). Would you please point me to the file so I can investigate?

It is model subject01_simbody_adjusted from the example files of project metabolics_run.

Thank you. That model file is provided in the .zip files contained in the plugins directory only to test that the plugin is functioning. For research purposes, I recommend referring to the example files found on the "Simulation-Based Design to Reduce Metabolic Cost" page in the Confluence documentation (https://simtk-confluence.stanford.edu:8 ... bolic+Cost).

I want to calculate the metabolic rate for gait2354 model. For normal human walking I have done scaling , IK , ID & CMC. Is it right steps for normal walking and please tell me how to calculate metabolic rate for normal person.
Which metabolic probe reporter file should I select.
I have gone to navigator window and right click on the probe and select the bhargavametabolic probe model. But I don't know how to calculate metabolic rate for normal person.
please help me
