Means: In person meeting
Attendees:
- Ahmet Erdemir
- Tammy Owings
- Robb Colbrunn
- Tara Bonner
- Callan Gillespie
Agenda:
- Discuss immediate action items from past meetings.
- Quarterly progress report.
- Decide immediate action items for next meeting.
- Other.
Immediate Action Items:
- Ahmet
- Follow up with Siemens to acquire more detailed ultrasound probe drawings including external casing curvature.
- Finish and submit the quarterly progress report.
- Follow up with necessary procedures to inform funding agency about the renewal of IRB approval.
- Tammy
- Update experimentation protocol to reflect changes in ultrasound probe placement for the forearm.
- Contact Siemens to get their recommendation on training opportunities for musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging.
- Follow up with John-Eric Jelovsek to get in touch with clinicians to learn interpretation of musculoskeletal ultrasound images.
- Robb
- Meet with John-Eric Jelovsek to see and record surgical tools and their handling.
- Tara
- Contact Prototype Laboratory at the Cleveland Clinic for 3D laser scanning of ultrasound probe case.
Robb, Tara & Callan
- Provide a front panel design for human subjects testing recording probe forces during ultrasound imaging.
- Continue working on software implementation to collect force transducer data and signaling for ultrasound system synchronization.
- Start design iterations for assembly of the ultrasound probe casing to the load cell.
Notes:
- Discuss immediate action items from past meetings.
- Ahmet was not able to get the detailed ultrasound probe drawings yet. The group discussed to get surface geometry of the casing with a 3D laser scanner. Tara noted that the Prototype Laboratory has a scanner. She will talk to them to see if we can use it.
- Tammy was not able to find clinicians to learn more about ultrasound imaging of musculoskeletal extremities. Ahmet advised her to follow up with Eric to get contacts. Ahmet also asked her to contact to Siemens to see if they have any recommendations for training.
- Robb scheduled a meeting with Eric to see the surgical tools and their handling.
- Robb, Tara, and Callan provided detailed documentation on ultrasound, force transducer, and their integration in the relevant infrastructure wiki page. Ahmet recommended a snapshot of a data collection front-end that may be useful for design of the interface.
- Quarterly progress report.
- Ahmet started compiling the progress report. He will complete and submit it next week.
- Decide immediate action items for next meeting.
- See Immediate Action Items above.
- Other.
- Tammy raised an issue when ultrasound imaging of the forearm. She recognized that it may not be possible to capture the bone boundary when the probe was longitudinally aligned and centered. Ahmet recommended re-orientation of the probe to focus on imaging the boundary of the ulna.
- Design of the handle to connect ultrasound probe to the force transducer was further discussed. Tammy emphasized that any design should accommodate visualization of marks on the ultrasound probe that gives the user an indication of image orientation. The handle should accommodate both right- and left-handed use. It is too early to talk to design group at the Cleveland Clinic before gross features of the design is determined.
- Ahmet mentioned that the specimen freezer used by multiple research groups is full. The freezer needs to be cleaned up and any unused specimens should be appropriately discarded to make space for new specimens. Next year, the project will need storage space for ten arm and ten leg specimens.
