Immediate Action Items:

Notes:

  1. Discuss immediate action items from past meetings.
    • All action items were related to the recurring agenda items; refer to discussions below.
  2. Manuscripts update.
    • Tyler continued writing the second draft of the instrumented ultrasound paper. The results, discussion, and conclusion remain to be rewritten.
    • Rici finished an introduction to the draft of in vivo testing data manuscript and continues to develop the other sections.
    • Ben continued literature review and continues to develop the manuscript on automation of model assembly.
  3. In vitro testing progress.
    • In vitro ultrasound experimentation are now complete until specimens from younger donors are acquired.
    • Tyler began development of tissue testing specifications using Mach-1 testing system:
      • Analysis scripts from Open Knee(s) are being adapted for 3-axis data output.
      • The third loading axis has arrived from Biomomentum, Inc.
      • Tyler ordered 2 stage adapters.
      • A decision must be made on bath type (tube vs cube) and height. In the meantime Tyler will use equipment from the Open Knee(s) project.
    • The group discussed revised instrumented surgical tool procedures, going over the initial specifications drafted by Tyler.
      • A sequential approach will be adapted - cutting/retracting skin, cutting/retracting full depth fat, cutting/retracting muscle, cutting/retracting full-depth (to the bone) muscle), peeling.
      • Video and images should be recorded before, during and after tests.
      • A sample of skin may be sent to histology and imaging facilities for accurate thickness analysis.
      • A suturing protocol may be added after full thickness skin dissection for quantification of suturing loads.
  4. Modeling & simulation progress.

    • Ben began investigating gravity compensation in the in silico models.
  5. Decide immediate action items for next meeting.
    • See Immediate Action Items above.
  6. Other.
    • Andrew, a plastic surgery research fellow, has started joining the meetings. Andrew will help experimentation using surgical tools.
    • Tammy will likely help with image segmentation and tissue testing tasks, depending on the need.
