Immediate Action Items:

Notes:

  1. Discuss immediate action items from past meetings.
    • All action items were related to the recurring agenda items; refer to discussions below.
  2. Manuscripts update.
    • Ahmet will be reviewing Tyler's manuscript before the team meeting on September 19, 2017.
    • Ben and Rici will continue working on their manuscripts.
  3. In vitro testing progress.
    • A dry mock test using instrumented surgical tools was completed this week and the data was reviewed.
    • The group discussed the order of operations and elaborated on experimental protocols.
      • The team decided to conduct forceps actions only for skin.
      • Tissue dissection will be performed after a full dept cut of tissue layers is performed.
      • Forces of suturing will be incorporated in a simplified form; various strategies were discussed and will be evaluated in the next mock up session.
      • Strain measurements may need focus only on skin relevant perturbations in order to simplify experimentation workflow. In addition, strain measurements for other tissues may not have relevance.
      • Ahmet also recommended indentation and pulling experiments done on skin while measuring surface strains. Indentation can be done with one of the instrumented tools, may be with a different tip, e.g. a small diameter indenter. Pulling can be done by the instrumented forceps.
    • A mock test session is planned for this Friday.
  4. Modeling & simulation progress.

    • Ben has started developing a model of the support pad. He will continue to work on this to provide it as a contact surface and possibly as a deformable support for the extremity models.
    • Ben has set up a meeting to begin using the high performance computing infrastructure.
    • Tammy continued segmentation and completed the upper leg.
    • After the in vitro model is complete, the team will focus on fitting in vivo data to the model and make sure the model works in multiple simulation platforms.
  5. Decide immediate action items for next meeting.
    • See Immediate Action Items above.
  6. Other.
    • None noted.
