Notes:
- Manuscripts update.
- Rici sent an e-mail to Scientific Data to get an update on the status of the in vivo data paper. Waiting to hear back.
- Tyler is waiting to hear back from John-Eric about the instrumented ultrasound paper before submitting.
- Rici set up a meeting with a biostatistician from QHS to get advice on statistical analysis for the indentation paper, image comparison paper, and expansion of model defining indentation stiffness using skin, fat, and muscle thicknesses. Rici, Tyler and Ahmet will meet with James Bena tomorrow (Wednesday, August 29th).
- Ben will re-run the test problems for the model assembly paper. He will make sure inputs and outputs are saved, changes are documented, and code tested on Linux and Windows.
- Data dissemination update.
- The group is still waiting to hear back about the remaining bugs. Rici will reach out to Tod about the progress.
- In vitro testing status.
- Ahmet asked the group if 7 in vitro specimens are enough or if we should try to get 3 additional specimens without the young donor criteria. We will ask the statistician about the number of specimen needed to compare in vivo to in vitro indentation mechanics.
- The first surgical tools experiment was completed last Thursday. Tyler showed the surface strain for the indentation and forceps. There were issues with the surface strain during the cutting experiment, but should be fixed by removing shadowing in the following experiments. Testing will move forward next week.
- Tyler and Ahmet discussed how to analyze the surface strain data. We will likely split the surface strain data from surgical tool forces data, and also from the ultrasound/indentation data for dissemination and publication.
- Tyler worked on finalizing the scripts for tissue testing to confirm the loading patterns that will be applied. He tested repeatability using rubber (2 trials). The rubber trials were right on top of each other; he will move on to fat testing next.
- For fat testing, Rici asked about the strain rate/strain from in vitro data. Rici calculated the strain rate, but will also provide Tyler with the strains.
Modeling & simulation status.
- Ben has made some modifications to the scripts so that they run on a Windows computer. He found someone that is interested in Open Knee(s) data to test it out as well; the modifications were working for that person.
- Sean has uploaded lumped models to Midas for all regions of the male and female specimen. We may need to come up with a way to handle the penetration of the probe at the initial placement.
- Sean was working on mesh convergence testing, however he will need access to high computing in order to run models with high density.
- Ahmet suggested coming up with a structured approach to test the different versions of FEBio. A test suite would be ideal. This will be discussed further as the work progresses.
- Rici showed the naming convention that she developed for modeling. Ahmet suggested using numeric identifier for the mesh density. Define average as "100" and the remaining will be scaled.
- Sean asked about uniformity in elements after sub-dividing mesh in Meshlab. Ahmet was not too concerned with the non-uniformity in the mesh, but advised him to talk with Ben about the results.
- Review of action items from past meeting.
- All action items were related to the agenda items; refer to discussions above.
- Decide action items for next meeting.
- See Ongoing Action Items above.
- Other.
- The group will now meet every two weeks.
