Immediate Action Items:
- Tyler
- Fine tuning strain measurement protocols using instrumented surgical tools.
- Continue evaluating the reproducibility of tissue testing protocols.
- Prepare a general outline of surgical tool manuscript.
- Troubleshoot tissue testing data plotting scripts with Ben.
- Ben
- Consolide and document modeling specifications.
- Meet with Ahmet to go over an outline of model assembly manuscript.
- Rici
- Continue development of manuscript on tissue thickness measurement comparisons.
- Continue development of manuscript on in vivo indentation stiffness.
- Continue evaluation of in vitro data management and dissemination platform.
- Ahmet
- Compile haptics libraries and SofaHAPI.
- Meet with Ben to go over an outline of model assembly manuscript.
Notes:
- Manuscripts update.
- Instrumented ultrasound manuscript is in review.
- Data manuscript on in vivo anatomy and indentation is in review.
- Ben requested assistance for the manuscript on model assembly and annotation; Ahmet and Ben will meet to go over an outline.
- Rici has been working to outline and complete data analysis for two manuscripts; one to evaluate correspondence of imaging modalities for tissue thickness measurement, the other to report in vivo surface stiffness. She will continue her efforts.
- Ahmet asked Tyler to frame the manuscript on instrumented surgical tools.
- Work for a data manuscript on in vitro anatomy and indentation can start. This can also feed into another manuscript on in vivo vs in vitro surface stiffness. These are not priority at the moment.
- Work for manuscripts related to reference lumped tissue models (from in vitro data) can start. This will require finalizing and documenting the whole workflow. It will likely result in a methodology paper with demonstration of all aspects of the workflow and individualization and another manuscript to report a database of reference lumped tissue models. This work will likely expand to studies on surrogate lumped tissue models (for surgical simulations), lumped tissue modeling based on in vivo data, and multi-layer models. Ben will start consolidating specifications within this framework.
- Data dissemination update.
- In vivo data has a DOI as part of data manuscript submission.
- Rici has started using the branched data management site for in vitro data. The group had a discussion on naming of the files, e.g. segmentation. Rici will continue evaluating her proposed convention.
- In vitro testing status.
- Ultrasound imaging and indentation.
- The team has been waiting for additional specimens from younger donors. Tyler will continue interacting with specimen suppliers to follow up.
- Tissue mechanical testing.
- Tyler has been conducting reproducibility testing using skin samples. He is comfortable with the procedures. Yet, he has been having difficulties to plot data using Python for evaluation. He will let Ben to take a look at his scripts.
- Surgical tool forces.
- Tyler and Rici has been wondering if they could improve measurement of surface strains. They recommended bringing in Vic3D folks for consultation. Ahmet agreed that this may be a good idea. Yet, he wants to make sure that they have something to recommend. Tyler will follow up.
- Ultrasound imaging and indentation.
Modeling & simulation status.
- Ben has been cleaning up procedures to prepare for streamlined modeling. He has also documented a few specifications in the wiki. Ahmet noted that new engineer recruitments will likely be involved in model development to utilize and evaluate Ben's workflows.
- Recent outreach.
- Tyler and Rici had a good time at IMSH 2018. They represented the team as part of the government row in the exhibit are. Rici also gave a podium presentation. They got great feedback on the work and some leads for potential collaborations. The experience seemed to justify the data collection, modeling, and dissemination efforts by the team.
- Review of immediate action items from past meetings.
- All action items were related to the agenda items; refer to discussions above.
- Decide immediate action items for next meeting.
- See Immediate Action Items above.
- Other.
- None noted.
