At the moment most models (the gait one in particular) do not have 3 rotational degrees of freedom (dof) at each joint. This is fine, however, the static calibration model fitting is only allowed to adjust pose according to the existing dof at a joint.
This limits the model fitting to subjects with reasonably 'normal' joints. In the clinical world, we don't always see normal joints. For example, we do see subjects with true varus/valgus at the knee. As is, OpenSim is unable to care for those subjects.
A solution, would be to set some of the dof of a joints as calibration only. To come back to my knee varus/valgus example, this would be a 'calibration only' dof. By allowing this, the static model fitting/pose estimation would find a value for the knee varus and fix this dof for subsequent use of the model.
One solution:
- Add an optional field in the coordinate description (Static calibration)
- Only the IK used during the pose estimation would be allowed to change this coordinate
That's it. |
