Summary:
Display and Snapshot Issues in OpenSim 4.0 Beta

Detailed description
I am using OpenSim 4.0 Beta on a Mac. I loaded an arm-robot model that looks great in OpenSim 3.3. The geometry looks overly smoothed in OpenSim 4.0 Beta - all the sharp edges on the robot geometry are now rounded. Also, when I tried taking a snapshot in OpenSim 4.0 Beta, the output file only contained a portion of the visualizer screen. No such problem exists in OpenSim 3.3.

STL files display issues are discussed in
https://github.com/opensim-org/opensim-gui/issues/465
Likely not changing for 4.0 but afterwards we can switch to the built-in threejs parser which is capable of displaying arbitrary stl files.

Thanks for reporting Dr. Fregly.

The visualization doesn't do anything special to smooth out corners, in fact if youload the taug-of-war model you'll see the boxes have sharp corners/edges etc. It depends on how geometry is defined in the mesh files (vtp, obj, stl) some will contain normals and those are respected, others don't and endup smoothed out when computing normals. This maybe different in OpenSim 3.3 which used vtk and no modern lighting/color model. If you believe this is a visualization error, please attach the model/files here or send them by private email.

The Snapshot issue is discussed here and is machine depndent
https://github.com/opensim-org/opensim-gui/issues/299
If you use the latest beta then you likely will get a full capture at all but highest resolution.

Please let me know what you find out.

Cheers,
